Davies hoping for great things at Silverstone

F1 hopeful Matt Davies believes he can turn his current form into a race-winning performance at Silverstone

Davies is one of a number of F3 drivers who know that the race this weekend is the big one in terms of profile.

They will be racing in front of the Grand Prix circus and all the teams in the International F3000 Championship, the only intermediate category between F3 and F1.

A good result here could be a massive boost to a young driver's aspirations for the 2000 season and beyond.

The 22-year-old said, 'It's a huge incentive to do well.

'If you're one of the top runners in the championship you really want to impress at Silverstone, because it's the only time we'll be seen in front of the F1 and F3000 people. You have to do what they expect of you.

'For someone like me in my first season, it's an opportunity to carve out an instant reputation for myself, and that's what I'm aiming for."

Davies, whose season's best is a third place in his Fortec Motorsport Dallara-Mugen Honda F399, was among the fastest in recent testing at Silverstone and he reckons his racing ability will come to the fore at the venue.

'I'm hoping to qualify in the top four, and if that happens I know I am capable of winning. Without doubt a podium finish is on the cards this weekend and with the added incentive of the GP onlookers, I aim to convince them of my potential.

'F1 is the ultimate goal for me and I reckon I have as good a chance as any, but everyone needs that important break if they¹re going to make it. Maybe it will come this weekend.'
