Buzaid takes first F3 win of 2010
Adriano Buzaid claimed his first win of the British Formula 3 season in this morning's reversed grid 'sprint' race at Silverstone
Compulsory pitstops were employed for the second time this year and the Brazilian and his Carlin team made the perfect strategic call to leapfrog early leader Carlos Huertas in the pits.
Colombian Huertas (Raikkonen Robertson) led the race comfortably from pole in the early stages, while Buzaid leapt from fourth to second with a great opening lap.
Huertas made his scheduled stop/go pit visit with four laps to run and Buzaid used the clear road in front of him to pump in the necessary quick times and build a big enough lead to emerge ahead when he made his own stop two laps later.
The plan worked to perfection and Buzaid raced on to a 2.690-second victory from Huertas, who missed out on a maiden win but took the two bonus points for fastest lap.
Championship leader Jean-Eric Vergne (Carlin) claimed the final podium spot after a combative drive. The Frenchman worked his way up to fourth from sixth on the grid on the opening lap and then got the better of Raikkonen Robertson's Felipe Nasr after the pitstop cycle - sealing the place on the brakes into Abbey with four laps to run.
Yesterday's winner James Calado was the last in this leading group and took fifth, well clear of Carlin team-mate Rupert Svendsen-Cook, who just held off Fortec's Oli Webb and Carlin's Jazeman Jaafar. The final Carlin car of Lucas Foresti ran in the top 10 for most of the race, but lost out badly with a late pitstop and finished 12th.
Hywel Lloyd (CF Racing/Manor) and Fortec's Daniel McKenzie claimed the final points by rounding out the top 10, while T-Sport's James Cole made a late pitstop strategy work to leap team-mate Menasheh Idafar and take National Class honours by seven tenths of a second in 16th.
