Buurman wins season finale
Fortec Motorsport's Yelmer Buurman scored his second last-corner wet-weather victory of the year in the British F3 season finale at Thruxton today
After pole man Maro Engel stalled on the grid, Carlin's Oliver Jarvis took a short-lived lead. Stephen Jelley (Double R) passed him on lap 1 and held the lead for several laps before Jarvis reclaimed the advantage.
Jelley then dropped back, and in the latter laps the race settled into a close fight between Jarvis, teammate Christian Bakkerud and Buurman. But the charging Buurman passed both in the closing stages.
The Dutchman slipped around Jarvis up the hill on the approach to the last corner, and Jarvis's efforts to defend put him off-line and helped Bakkerud get alongside him exiting the chicane.
The Carlin pair race side-by-side to the line but Bakkerud prevailed by a fraction of a second.
Today's results ensure that Jarvis finishes second in the championship behind Mike Conway, whose tyre wear troubles meant he had a lonely run to fourth place.
