British Championship may be slimmed down
The British F3 Championship could face a cut in race meetings for next year
Organisers want to streamline the schedule from the present 14 meetings to a more manageable 12, while keeping the number of races the same at 16.
The Formula 3 Association (FOTA), which co-ordinates the series, attempted the move for 1999 but it is thought the idea met with opposition from the British Racing Drivers' Club, which co-organises the championship.
Teams have indicated to FOTA that reducing the number of meetings would free them up to contest the international races at Pau, Zandvoort and Macau.
Fortec Motorsport team manager David Hayle, whose squad is missing Pau this weekend, agreed.
'It would be better if there were 10 or 12 meetings,' he said. 'It would also help if the calendar was more compact, whereby we start in late April and finish in August.
'Then we could get rid of some of the testing and add in some European races before and after the season. It just needs a re-think.'
