Algarve European F3: Lotus junior Alexander Albon loses pole

Signature driver and Lotus F1 junior Alexander Albon has been excluded from the Formula 3 European Championship's second qualifying at the Algarve circuit

Algarve European F3: Lotus junior Alexander Albon loses pole

Albon, who had taken pole for race two, will now start at the back of the grid in both the second and third events due to being unable to provide the mandatory 1kg of sample fuel following the session.

His second best time had secured him 12th on the grid for the finale before the stewards' decision.

Albon was the only driver able to resist Prema Powerteam in qualifying, securing his pole ahead of a Prema quartet.

Felix Rosenqvist was at the front of the queue behind Albon and therefore now has a double pole having already been starting first for race three.

Jake Dennis had secured the first qualifying session's pole position, meaning Prema Powerteam cars now start from pole in all three races, and lock out at least the front three slots in each race.
