Felix Rosenqvist heads Barcelona F3 Euro Series test for Mucke Motorsport
Felix Rosenqvist underlined his status as pre-season favourite by topping a second F3 Euro Series test within the space of a week at a wet and dry Barcelona circuit
The Swede has gone fastest during two days of official running at Valencia last weekend, and was again the pace-setter on both days for Mucke Motorsport as the cars and drivers moved up the Spanish coast.
Rosenqvist's test-topping time of 1m39.634s came on the opening morning and enabled him to head his team-mate Pascal Wehrlein by 0.397s. Afternoon rain prevented anybody from going faster.
Thursday morning's weather was even worse, forcing a red flag for safety reasons, but when the circuit did dry out during the afternoon, it was again Rosenqvist to the fore as he knocked Prema's Raffaele Marciello off the top of the timesheets by 0.165s with less than 15 minutes of running remaining. His time was not as quick as he managed on Wednesday, however.
"We have learned so much over these four days of testing, and we have managed to stick to our own programme without any distractions, crashes or incidents in either of the sessions," said Rosenqvist, last year's Masters of Formula 3 winner.
"I didn't quite have the same confidence in the car today as I had yesterday and it actually didn't feel very good, but we are analysing the data as we speak and I think some of it had to do with the winds around here.
"All-in-all, however, we've been very strong in both wet and dry conditions, on new and old tyres and both here and in Valencia, so we do look forward to the season and should be in good shape. We're up to the challenge and I'm more motivated than ever."
Behind the Mucke duo, Michael Lewis set the third best time overall to head his Prema team-mates Marciello and Juncadella, while URD's Lucas Wolf was sixth and also headed the order in what running was done on Thursday morning.
Sandro Zeller (Jo Zeller Racing), Sven Muller (Prema), Philip Ellis (GU) and Luis Sa Silva (Racing for Angola) completed the top 10.
