Sims charges to race two victory

Alexander Sims came through from sixth on the grid to take victory in the second Formula 3 Euro Series race of the weekend at Paul Ricard on Sunday

The British driver worked his way through the field in the early laps, and took the lead from Roberto Merhi on lap seven before stretching away to take a comfortable win.

Behind ART driver Sims, race one winner Edoardo Mortara snatched second place with a stunning three-wide pass around the outside of Merhi and Marco Wittmann at Signes on the final lap.

Wittmann had spent the second half of the race chasing down Merhi (Mucke), and just as he finally made the pass on the final lap, Mortara was able to slipstream them both to demote his German team-mate back down to third.

Merhi had to settle for fourth behind the two Signature drivers, while Laurens Vanthoor came from the back of the grid to take fifth in the third Signature car.

ART's Valtteri Bottas completed the points scorers in sixth, after a poor start left the Finn scrapping for minor places while the other title favourites worked their way to the front early on.
