Parente stays on with Coloni
Alvaro Parente is to stay on at Coloni for the GP2 Asia finale next weekend after his promising performance in the last event
The Portuguese driver was a late addition to the field but finished sixth in the first race at Sakhir and was battling for the lead when a collision with Sergio Perez ended his sprint race on the first lap.
He has now confirmed that he will get another chance with Coloni when the championship concludes with two more Sakhir races on the Bahrain Grand Prix support bill.
"We confirmed Alvaro for the last GP2 Asia Series race because of the great potential he showed one week ago in Bahrain," said team boss Paolo Coloni.
"Racing in the same weekend with Formula 1 will mean a completely different kind and amount of rubber on the track, so from a technical point of view this will be a challenge. I'm sure that Alvaro's experience and enthusiasm will help the team in doing the best possible job."
Parente expects to be even more competitive now he has settled in at Coloni, and is determined to impress in front of the F1 teams.
"In my first race with Scuderia Coloni we showed, since the beginning, that we had the pace to fight for the top positions," he said. "Unfortunately we didn't have the best luck during the weekend and we only got the sixth place.
"It was very easy to work with all the team and, for this race, I think that we will be even more competitive. Should be great to go for the win when the F1 championship starts."
