Viso fastest in one-off warm-up

Race 2 pole-sitter Ernesto Viso has topped the times sheet in the warm-up session this morning at Valencia

The iSport driver, who finished the season-opening race yesterday in eight position, set a lap of 1:20.346, beating Super Nova's Jose Maria Lopez by just half a tenth of a second.

Durango driver Lucas di Grassi had a scary moment when the left rear suspension broke on his car as he hit the brakes for Turn 2, while Clivio Piccione's DPR Direxiv car was badly damaged when his throttle stuck open on the main straight leading into Turn 1.

"I was doing 270/280km/h when I hit the brakes and the throttle stayed open," he said. "The car was buried in the tyres and I don't know if there's going to be time to get it ready for the race."

FMS driver Jason Tahinci had yet more woe, with continued gearbox problems.

Third fastest was Adam Carroll for Racing Engineering, who will start today's sprint race in 14th, followed by race 1 winner Nelson Piquet Jr, who set the fourth fastest time - half a second behind Viso's.

GP2 normally does not hold a warm-up session between the feature race and the sprint one, as the rounds are normally held in tandem with the Formula One Grand Prix weekend.

However, with the Valencia round being entirely independent, the organisers have adopted a different weekend schedule, which included this morning's one-off session.
