Zonta tipped for second year at BAR

Ricardo Zonta is expected to stay at the British American Racing for 2000

Team boss Craig Pollock is said to be keen to take up his option on the Brazilian, who has impressed this season, despite missing three races due to injury.

Zonta finished his first grand prix last weekend in France, coming home in ninth position.

His team-mate Jacques Villeneuve has yet to finish a race this season.

Pollock has until the end of September to decide whether to keep Zonta.

However, Pollock can only retain Zonta if McLaren decides not to take him back.

The world champion team has the driver under a long-term contract, and team boss Ron Dennis has until the end of August to decide whether he wants him.

That looks unlikely as things stand.

Dennis said earlier this month that he sees no reason to change his current line-up of Mika Hakkinen and David Coulthard.

However there has been speculation that Dennis might be tempted to take Zonta if he continues to impress with BAR.

If he did, Coulthard would be most likely to be dropped. Dennis has until the end of August to take up the Scot's option.

Jordan is also said to be interested in Zonta.

Meanwhile, some say that Prost's Jarno Trulli is high on McLaren's list.
