Winter development is crucial, says Head
Williams' technical director Patrick Head has said that the following couple of months will be crucial to his team's chances of toppling Ferrari next season
The Grove-based team lost its chance of winning the constructors' championship in the final race at Suzuka when Juan Pablo Montoya retired from the lead of the race, and Ralf Schumacher spun three times. It was the team's first zero score of the season, and allowed Ferrari to win the title by 14 points.
"Obviously we've got to do is look at it and try and understand why it's happened, and put it right for next year," said Head. "Obviously we intend to start next year in a much stronger position than last year, and that's very important for us, so we've got to work very hard over the winter and make sure that we correct these problems."
Williams made great strides with its FW25 during the early races, but Head is adamant that they need to be winning races right from the start of 2004.
"We certainly intend to be [in a title winning position], but you don't know until you actually go out at the beginning of the next year," he added.
