Wilson's Jaguar future in the balance
Justin Wilson's hopes of retaining his Jaguar seat may be dashed because the team could need a paying driver for 2004, according to a story in this week's AUTOSPORT Magazine.
Wilson's performances since his Jaguar début in the German Grand Prix may not be enough to secure a seat alongside Mark Webber, who has already been confirmed for next year. Jaguar's financial situation is likely to be affected by the heavy losses of parent company Ford.
A major factor could also be the Jaguar's success or failure in securing fifth place in the constructor's championship this year. Fifth place would bring a significant share of Formula 1's television revenues for next year. Thus any points Wilson scores could have a greater than usual effect on his possibilities for 2004.
Jaguar boss Tony Purnell said: "Justin is hoping to impress us, and we are very much hoping to be impressed by him. Then we will take stock and look at next year."
