Williams, Toyota Under Investigation

The Williams-BMW and Toyota teams are under investigation for running illegal brake ducts in the Canadian Grand Prix and could be excluded from the results.

The Williams-BMW and Toyota teams are under investigation for running illegal brake ducts in the Canadian Grand Prix and could be excluded from the results.

The two teams apparently ran with illegal brake ducts, which are used to cool the brakes, and are understood to have modified them on Saturday with the Montreal circuit renowned as a heavy-braking track.

Williams drivers Ralf Schumacher and Juan Pablo Montoya finished second and fifth respectively while Toyota collected a point through Cristiano da Matta's eighth place. Toyota's second driver Olivier Panis finished out of the points in 10th.

An FIA source told Atlas F1 that "a decision has been taken and will be announced soon. The results will change." The source, however, did not confirm which teams are being investigated.

Toyota motorsport president John Howett confirmed that both teams' cars had been investigated after the race but was confident Toyota would be given the all-clear. Williams bosses had no comment and there was no official confirmation.
