Williams Pushing Hard, Says Head

The Williams team are pushing really hard in order to be able to catch rivals Ferrari this season, according to the British squad's technical director Patrick Head.

The Williams team are pushing really hard in order to be able to catch rivals Ferrari this season, according to the British squad's technical director Patrick Head.

Prior to the start of season, Williams were among the favourites to give Ferrari a good run for their money and stop the Italian squad from scoring their fourth consecutive constructors' crown and Michael Schumacher from clinching his third straight drivers' crown.

But four-time World Champion Schumacher and his team have won four out of the first five races this year, with truly dominant performances in the last two Grands Prix in San Marino and Spain.

Head has admitted that Williams are disappointed with their pace, but added that they were working harder than ever to catch their rivals.

"Obviously we're disappointed since the race in Malaysia where we were very strong, although Michael had problems," said Head today in a press conference ahead of Sunday's Austrian Grand Prix.

"Just in terms of pure performance we were very strong in the race there, and we've certainly been disappointed with ourselves since then in terms of performance we've been able to achieve. We're pushing ourselves pretty hard as well.

"I think we should be (closer to Ferrari)," said Head of the Austrian Grand Prix, "but really and truthfully we haven't had much excuse on any of the tracks, but this one should certainly suit us a bit better than Barcelona particularly."

Schumacher, who has never won the Austrian race before, is currently leading Williams driver Juan Pablo Montoya in the standings, 21 points ahead of the Colombian.
