Williams Not Getting Carried Away

Team boss Frank Williams is refusing to get carried away by his team's recent performances and warned that the outcome of the European Grand Prix at the Nurburgring will be crucial to their title challenge.

Team boss Frank Williams is refusing to get carried away by his team's recent performances and warned that the outcome of the European Grand Prix at the Nurburgring will be crucial to their title challenge.

Williams and engine partner BMW were at loggerheads in the early part of the season after a disappointing results in the opening races, but the last two races in Monaco and Canada have altered the balance.

The team's fortunes changed for the better when Montoya won the Monaco Grand Prix two weeks ago after his teammate Ralf Schumacher had started the race from the head of the grid. The German repeated the pole position feat in Canada and came home second ahead of Montoya to secure a double podium finish for the Grove-based team.

But Williams is urging caution and said: "The last two races are on peculiar circuits. They don't require the same car characteristics as other circuits and we will see at the next race where we really are."

Williams, however, was disappointed his two drivers had been beaten by Ferrari driver Michael Schumacher in Canada after the German secured the race with a quick first pit-stop.

"I am not really satisfied," he said. "We started on pole and finished second. We were hopeful of winning, probably had a good chance, but in the pitstops Michael pulled out a quicker out and in lap than us. We don't know if it was a mistake yet.

"We haven't looked at the television or the figures, but there was no obvious mistake and we have no problem with Ralf."
