Williams again on top at Valencia

Alexander Wurz finished on top of the times for the second day running at the Valencia circuit, where Williams and Spyker are testing this week

Wurz's best time of 1:11.614, achieved in the morning, was over three tenths of a second quicker than teammate Nico Rosberg, who took over from test driver Kazuki Nakajima at the wheel of the second FW29.

Christijan Albers also began working today after skipping the first day of testing, the Dutchman leading the Spyker trio ahead of the teammate Adrian Sutil and test driver Fairuz Fauzy.

The Malaysian was making his Formula One debut after being announced as part of Spyker's line-up earlier this year, completing enough km to qualify him for his super licence.

Fauzy commented: "I was very pleased, especially as I didn't make any big mistakes. The most important thing today was to get the licence, but from now on we can start to try different things."

Spyker's chief technical officer Mike Gascoyne was happy with reliability, but not so happy with the potential qualifying pace of the car: "Today was another productive day. We covered a lot of laps, once again with no mechanical issues.

"In the morning Fairuz did a very good job to get up to the required mileage to qualify for a super licence - he made no mistakes and was consistent throughout his runs.

"Christijan took over the car at lunch to complete set up work plus evaluate the new Bridgestone Potenza tyres.

"Additionally, we looked at our performance over one lap and conducted a race simulation with Adrian Sutil. In the longer runs we know the car is consistent, but we are struggling to make the tyres work on the first lap. We'll continue to work on this tomorrow."

The fastest Spyker was nearly two seconds off Wurz's pace.

There were no red flags during the day.

Both teams continue at Valencia tomorrow.

Today's times:
