Webber: stability to push RBR forward
Mark Webber believes his Red Bull Racing team will make a step forward this season thanks to the stability in the workforce
And the Australian said the number one task facing his team is producing a reliable car after a season of several mechanical failures.
"I am actually looking forward to the season," Webber said on the main stage at the Autosport International Show. "The biggest thing for us this year is the continuity. We have the same engine, we have the same drivers, we have the same technical staff.
"All the engineers that [teammate] David [Coulthard] and I worked with are the same, so that's going to help us come Sunday afternoon."
Webber pinned his hopes on input from Geoff Willis, who was appointed RBR's technical director last July, hoping Willis can emulate his success at BAR-Honda in 2004, when the Japanese team finished second in the constructors' championship.
"I hope he makes the same difference as he did at Honda," Webber stated. "He's definitely a very, very instrumental part of what I believe Honda achieved in terms of how reliable they were and how consistent they were back then.
"That's something we need to do - we need to get reliable, we need to understand where we come from and how to turn up at each Grand Prix and deliver. Geoff's got a big role to play in the team, there's no question about that.
"He will be working with Adrian [Newey]; making sure that deadlines are met; making sure that we can race week in week out against some of the manufacturers.
"We did a good job against Honda and Toyota in 2007 only because they did a poor job. So we've got to step up another year, there's no question about it.
"We saw the pace of the car improving at the end of last year, so hopefully we can continue that pace on. We all know we've got to improve our reliability because that was rubbish. So we're going to try to do a better job of getting the cars to the finish."
