Webber: RB6 is a potential winner

Mark Webber is confident that the new Red Bull RB6 will be in contention for race wins this season after the car's first day of dry running

The Australian completed 99 laps in the Renault-engined machine on the second day of the Jerez test, and despite setting only the ninth fastest time he is happy with the progress that the team has made.

"If feels good - we will be somewhere in the hunt," said Webber. "There are a few other people that might be a bit quicker or a bit slower, it's hard to say, but we feel that we are going okay at the moment.

"But we've got work to do, no question about it. We saw Brawn last year have an amazing start and then developments changed so we are respectful of that. It's a long season."

Webber admitted that he would have liked to have completed more laps if possible, but as it was only the second day of running for the car, which was launched yesterday, the team completed the work it needed to do today.

"We managed to complete quite a few laps today and it would have been nice to have been able to sneak a few more in, but generally we got through the programme," said Webber.

"It was the first dry day and there was a lot of stuff to go through to understand the challenges of the new regulations. We are pretty happy with how things have done.

"We would have liked to have [done a proper long run]. We got a red flag on one of them and there was another one where we had a vibration of a wheel weight that got out of hand. We just had a few little frustrating ones but nothing big."
