Australian Mark Webber has revealed his Jaguar team compromised their chances in today's final qualifying for the European Grand Prix in order to be in a stronger position in tomorrow's race.
"We are very pleased to have ended up in P11 given the focus that we have been putting onto the race for tomorrow," said Webber after just missing out on a top ten position. "We've had to compromise a higher qualification position for this but everything looks good for tomorrow providing we have a hot race.
"The balance of the car is very good and Michelin have again proved their worth â€" something they have been doing since Melbourne. They certainly have the upper hand in the tyre war right now and let's hope we can put all this to good use tomorrow."
Webber has scored all of Jaguar's points so far this year, with three seventh place finishes.
Meanwhile, rookie teammate Antonio Pizzonia posted the 16th fastest time of the session, more than a second behind the Australian driver. Like Webber, Pizzonia is also looking forward to a stronger race.
"Not the best I could have done but we have a good race car for tomorrow," said the Brazilian. "I struggled a little this morning in trying to find a good set-up for the car and that is frustrating given how well we went in the dry yesterday.
"It would have been nice to have been higher up the order today but finding a good set-up on new tyres was difficult this morning. Our biggest enemy tomorrow will be the rain and as long as it stays dry, I can make an impact on the race for sure."
