Villeneuve: 'We're getting there'
Jacques Villeneuve qualified sixth for the Spanish Grand Prix and said it
could have been higher had he not lost track time in the morning untimedsession with a fuel problem.
Teammate Mika Salo, in his third and last race for the Formula One
newcomers, will start 16th after his best time was disallowed for ignoring
yellow flags during the morning's untimed session.
"I was never on for pole I'm happy with my time," said Villeneuve
"Considering we lost 45 minutes with a small fuel problem.
"It was a pity because the car is fast and I think we could have been
closer to the front with a bit more track time.
A blown Supertec engine during qualifying highlighted the team's continuing
reliability problems. "I am confident that we're going to be fast in the
race, now let's hope we can make it to the chequered flag!"
Salo was disappointed with his grid time after running faster before
lunch. "I'm a little disappointed as this morning my best time was quicker
- good enough for tenth position on the grid. We had been fairly happy
with the car's balance, but of course as the track heated up this afternoon we had to make more changes, which upset
the rhythm. The overall balance of the car is good though, and I shall be pushing hard
in the race to
make up places."
