Villeneuve Warns Button over Future

Jenson Button could be given the cold-shoulder by Formula One teams in the future following his contractual disputes with BAR and Williams

That is the claim of former World Champion Jacques Villeneuve, who is adamant that Button will pay a penalty in the long-term for his short-term ambitions.

Just 12 months after he tried to get out of a contract he had with BAR to join Williams, the young Briton is now trying to convince Williams to release him from a deal he has with them so he can stay at BAR.

Speaking about the situation in the October edition of F1 Racing, Villeneuve believed there would be future problems for Button caused by the two affairs.

"Jenson is out to do what's best for Jenson, obviously," said Villeneuve. "But why would another team want to sign a contract with him now, because obviously contracts mean very little to him?"

Button's bid to get released by Williams suffered another blow on Friday when the team confirmed that they would not be retaining Nick Heidfeld next season.

Had the team decided to keep hold of the German then Button would have had a much stronger legal argument to get released from his commitments to the outfit.
