Villeneuve wants early decision from BMW

BMW motorsport director Mario Theissen said at the British Grand Prix that his team would wait until the end of the season before deciding on who will be Nick Heidfeld's teammate next year.

But Villeneuve has made it clear that he does not want to wait that long - amid suggestions that he has offered his services to Toyota.

"Let's see what happens," he said. "The earlier the better, really. It seems that every year people sign their contracts earlier and earlier, so I really don't want to wait that long.

"I would prefer to stay here. It is going well, and we are working well together. If there is no open door here, there are other interesting teams as well."

Villeneuve believes that his performances this year have done enough to justify BMW retaining him in 2007. The team are believed to be considering promoting third driver Robert Kubica to a race seat, however.

"I feel quite good about the driving, hopefully it will get me a contract for next year," said Villeneuve.

"If things continue to go well like now, there is no reason why not. Other drivers get contracts and they have quite bad seasons."
