Villeneuve Happy with Season's Best Performance

Canadian Jacques Villeneuve was pleased with the performance of his British American Racing car in today's qualifying for the United States Grand Prix at Indianapolis.

Canadian Jacques Villeneuve was pleased with the performance of his British American Racing car in today's qualifying for the United States Grand Prix at Indianapolis.

Villeneuve, who has scored only three points this year thanks to a fourth place at the British Grand Prix back in July, completed his best performance of the season in today's qualifying, posting the seventh quickest time as fastest of the Honda-powered cars.

"The car was great for one lap on new tyres," said Villeneuve, a former CART champion and winner of the Indianapolis 500. "The car was always difficult to drive yesterday and this morning, but we could get one lap out of the tyres. I knew we could get in the top 10 after yesterday.

"This morning didn't go too well because we didn't get any access because of mechanical problems, so we didn't set the car up and didn't get the running to be confident for qualifying, but it worked fine."

French teammate Olivier Panis had to settle for 12th position in the second of the Brackley-based squad's cars.
