Trulli Tops the Times at Silverstone - Day One

Three Formula One teams - Renault, Jordan and Arrows - began a three-day testing programme at the Silverstone circuit on Monday, their final test before the Australian Grand Prix.

Three Formula One teams - Renault, Jordan and Arrows - began a three-day testing programme at the Silverstone circuit on Monday, their final test before the Australian Grand Prix.

Italian Jarno Trulli topped the timesheets as the Renault team continued with their promising pre-season form after setting the quickest time on the three days of testing at Barcelona last week. Trulli, at the wheel of the R202, finished ahead of German Heinz-Harald Frentzen in the Arrows A23.

"In spite of a damp circuit this morning, we managed to start running in the dry by lunchtime, and then began long runs this afternoon," said Trulli. "We covered more than a full race distance, and the car felt really good. Overall, I'm happy with what we achieved and feeling confident."

The Jordan team were the only ones in action with their two drivers, although neither Giancarlo Fisichella nor teammate Takuma Sato were able to run much today, with the Japanese star being able to complete just five laps.

Testing at Silverstone will continue on Tuesday.

Today's times:

Pos Driver Team-Engine Tyres Time Laps 1. Trulli Renault (M) 1:24.390 64 2. Frentzen Arrows-Cosworth (B) 1:25.106 15 3. Fisichella Jordan-Honda (B) 1:25.996 10 4. Sato Jordan-Honda (B) 1:30.970 5 All Timing Unofficial
