Traffic problems cost Barrichello dear

Rubens Barrichello said only traffic was to blame for his disappointing showing in qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix

The Honda driver, who has struggled so far this year, continued with his miserable season after failing to make the first cut in qualifying.

Barrichello waited until the final minutes to set a laptime, and then Super Aguri's Yuji Ide slowed him down during his flying lap.

Barrichello wound up 17th fastest.

"Traffic," said Barrichello when asked what had gone wrong. "Just the way rule is you get the traffic and you get unlucky," the Brazilian told autosport.com.

"The track was very dirty and we decided to go as late as possible. I don't think there was the problem really. I had to back off for one lap and lost the temperature in the tyres and I had traffic again on the next lap.

"I couldn't do a lap. There is no one to blame apart from the traffic."

The Brazilian, who had claimed yesterday he had enjoyed his best Friday to date, was not so pleased today.

"Yeah, and this is the worst Saturday. Oh man, for sure," he added.

"It is frustration after frustration, the only way I have to think of that is that we are going to be in the stronger if we keep on going, that is the only way."

Barrichello, whose teammate Jenson Button took pole position, claimed he could have easily made the top 10 if not for his problems.

"Top 10 easy. The car was good, as Jenson showed. It was getting better as the track was getting better so for sure we were going to be up there," he added.

The Honda driver admitted the team will have to look at changing their qualifying approach following their problems to get a clean lap.

"We have to have a look at that. Everyone is learning quite quickly and Michael (Schumacher) is out of the top 10 and we have to sit down and have a look. Obviously you have to be in because we have a car that is competitive, but something else put us out of it."
