Toyota to test Castroneves this week

Indianapolis 500 double winner Helio Castroneves is gearing up for his Formula 1 test debut, which will be held at Paul Ricard in France this week with Toyota

The Brazilian, who narrowly missed out on claiming the Indy Racing League title in Texas last weekend, was due for a seat fitting yesterday (Monday).

"Well, yes, I do have a test," Castroneves admitted last weekend. "I should think it is going to be between Friday and Saturday."

Castroneves drives in the IRL for Team Penske, which will be powered by Toyota engines next year.

"It's an opportunity," said Castroneves, who played down chances of him being lined up for a Toyota race drive in F1. "Yes, I have always had a wish to drive an F1 car. I guess the opportunity showed up. I'm very happy to go and try.

"As far as next year, so far I'm set with Roger Penske. I guess I'm very happy about the team. I believe their happy as well. When you have a good combination, it's difficult to break.

"As far as I'm concerned, I'm here next year in the IRL."

Fellow Brazilian Cristiano da Matta, leader of the IRL's rival series CART, has re-emerged as the favourite to race for Toyota in F1 next year alongside Frenchman Olivier Panis.
