Theissen hopeful team will stay in F1
The BMW Sauber team still has a chance of remaining in Formula 1 next year, claims team principal Mario Theissen, despite the failure to find a buyer so far
Discussions are ongoing with a number of parties about purchasing the Hinwil-based operation in the wake of BMW's decision to quit Formula 1 at the end of the season.
With other outfits pushing hard to be granted the 13th slot in the event of BMW Sauber not being sold, pressure is on the team to get the matter sorted out fast.
Theissen said at Monza that the team was still working hard on finding a solution to save the outfit - with a deal hopefully sorted in the next few weeks.
"I cannot say anything new because we are working really hard," explained Theissen. "There are negotiations ongoing behind the scenes, but I am cannot comment on things that are not finalised and we don't have a decision.
"I can only say there is a chance for the team to continue, but we don't have a decision yet."
When asked when he expected to be able to reveal some news, Theissen said: "In September. This month."
Theissen was he was unaware of any move by the Swiss government to step in and help the team, as had been rumoured in the build-up to the Italian Grand Prix.
