Sunday Warm-Up - Canadian GP

Ferrari pair Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello gave an early warning to pole-sitter Juan Pablo Montoya ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix as they topped the times in the morning warm-up.

Schumacher ended the half-hour session on top after he was beaten to the much-coveted pole position by the Colombian during qualifying on Saturday. Williams had to settle for third fastest with Ralf Schumacher, while McLaren's David Coulthard was fourth quickest. Montoya went off the track late on and was only ninth fastest.

Arrows' Enrique Bernoldi and Italian Jarno Trulli in a Renault completed the top six as all the drivers were unable to dislodge the Ferraris from the top two positions. The drivers came out to track temperatures of 22 degrees Celsius for the morning warm-up as Kimi Raikkonen headed the queue in the pitlane in his McLaren.

Pole-sitter Montoya was the first man to set a lap under the 1:21 second mark in his Williams before Raikkonen and McLaren teammate Coulthard clocked times almost two seconds quicker. But Championship leader Schumacher, using intermediate tyres on a patchy track, stormed to the top of the timesheets in the early minutes before being displaced by Ferrari teammate Barrichello.

Briton Jenson Button also posted a quick lap before Schumacher moved back to the head of the leaderboard by clocking a 1:17.549 lap as Ferrari attempted to gain a psychological edge ahead of the race.

Frenchman Olivier Panis made an impression by moving into third spot in his BAR with 11 minutes remaining, behind the two Ferraris and one place ahead of Williams driver Ralf Schumacher. Jaguar's Eddie Irvine moved up to fifth before teammate Pedro de la Rosa went third quickest.

The yellow flags were then waved in the final eight minutes of the session as World Champion Schumacher pulled onto the grass at turn 15 with smoke coming out of the rear of his Ferrari. Bernoldi and the younger Schumacher then took their turns in third spot in the times with three minutes remaining but significantly, the Williams driver was still more than seven-tenths of a second behind his all-conquering older brother.

Montoya lost the back end of his car between turns 12 and 13 and was forced to move onto the grass in the final two minutes but will begin the real action from pole at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
