Storms threaten Indianapolis
Any hopes that moving the US Grand Prix from September to June would reduce the chance of bad weather have been dashed, and the race weekend is likely to be affected by the sort of conditions that curtailed the Indy 500 last month
Over the past four seasons the Grand Prix has been hit by poor weather several times, making for some dramatic action.
Early arrivals in Indianapolis were met with a heavy thunderstorm on Tuesday afternoon, and Wednesday morning has kicked off with more heavy rain. More than two inches had fallen by 9am today in some areas of Indiana, although Indianapolis itself has escaped the worst of it. However, there are even flood alerts in the central region of the state.
The rain is expected to continue on Thursday, but at this stage local TV forecasters expect dry weather for the first day of practice on Friday. However they expect more scattered showers and thunderstorms 'late' on Saturday and Sunday, so it's anybody's guess how things unfold.
It remains hot and humid, with Sunday's temperature estimated to reach 85 degrees. However, the early noon start may mean that it's a little cooler for the race.
