Stoneman gets post-season F1 test
Dean Stoneman, the newly crowed Formula 2 champion, will have his prize run for Williams at the post-season young driver test at Abu Dhabi
The 20-year-old Briton clinched the F2 title at Valencia on Saturday and, as well as earning a super licence for his success, he will get his first try out in an F1 car with Williams in November.
Speaking about his forthcoming run, Stoneman told AUTOSPORT: "We've always had to do everything on our own, so to get this opportunity with Williams is amazing - I'd never have thought I'd be in this position a year ago.
"I go into the factory before the test so it will be a good opportunity to meet the team, find out what to expect and find out what they expect from me in Abu Dhabi. I'm really looking forward to the chance to get into the car and do what I know I do best; just drive as fast as I can."
The young driver test in Abu Dhabi is aimed at giving rising talent the chance to experience F1 machinery - which teams banned from running drivers who have competed regularly in grands prix.
Stoneman is set to run on one of the two days of testing, with Williams test driver Valtteri Bottas likely to run for the team on the other day.
Last year's F2 champion Andy Soucek impressed in the 2009 young drivers' test at Jerez and subsequently landed a reserve driver role at Virgin Racing, though he parted company with the team earlier this season.
