• Jenson Button finished second in 2004 and took another podium with third a year later. Out of nine starts, he has only been on the front row once - in 2005.

• Lewis Hamilton won the 2008 race after fighting back from a late-stop during a safety car intervention. He was unlucky in last year's Nurburgring race - he had the chance to fight for pole, but changing weather conditions put him fifth. He took the lead at the start but was touched from behind, puncturing his rear tyre.

• Michael Schumacher has only been outqualied twice by his team-mates at Hockenheim in 14 attempts - in 1998 by Eddie Irvine and in 2003 by Rubens Barrichello. When Schumacher has finished in Germany, it's never been lower than seventh (in 2003). He has won his home race four times and started from pole twice.

• Sebastian Vettel was second in grid last year, but was overtaken at the start by several cars equipped with KERS. He had to work his way through during the pit-stops, eventually finishing second behind team-mate Mark Webber.

• Mark Webber scored his maiden pole and win last year at the Nurburgring. He has the distinction of having a perfect qualifying score in Hockenheim (6-0) against his team-mates. Before last year's win he had only finished in the points once, in 2004.

• Fernando Alonso won the German Grand Prix in 2005 thanks to a failure in Kimi Raikkonen's car, the Finn. That was his last podium in Germany. He has never started from the front row there - his best qualifying spot being a third in 2005.

• Rubens Barrichello won his maiden grand prix at Hockenheim ten years ago. He followed that up with a second place the following season. It's not all been plain-sailing though... three accidents, three engine breakages and three more mechanical failures. He has only finished only seven German GPs out of sixteen starts. Last year's race was the only one in which he started from the front row.

• Nico Hulkenberg last raced at Hockenheim in 2008 in the F3 Euroseries where he started from pole and retired while in the lead in the first race and finished 24th in the second.

• Vitantonio Liuzzi has only competed in one German Grand Prix, in 2006, finishing tenth. Two years prior to that he won from pole in the last International F3000 race to be held at Hockenheim.

• Heikki Kovalainen scored points in his last two German Grands Prix (fifth and eighth) and in his 2005 GP2 races (fifth and sixth).

• Sakon Yamamoto made his Formula 1 debut here in 2006 with Super Aguri - he was last in grid and in the race he retired for a half-shaft failure.

Teams

• BMW Sauber, which celebrates its 40th anniversary, has never finished on the podium in Germany and last year it didn't reach the top-10 in qualifying.

• Ferrari last won the German Grand Prix in 2006. The team has won the event nineteen times however, a record for a single race. Ferrari also holds the record for Italy and France (17).

• Red Bull is seeking its fifteenth straight front row start. Last year in the German Grand Prix the team took pole and a one-two finish in the race.

• Toro Rosso scored points in 2008 with Sebastian Vettel, who finished eighth. Last year at the Nurburgring, the best-placed Toro Rosso was Buemi's, in seventeenth.

• Williams last won the race in 2003, when Juan Pablo Montoya took pole, fastest lap and won the race. It was the last time the team climbed on the podium in Germany.
