Spyker say 2008 no transitional year

Spyker boss Colin Kolles has said he does not want his team to treat 2008 as a rebuilding year ahead of the imminent takeover by Indian business Vijay Mallya

With a joint bid between Mallya and Dutch entrepreneur Michiel Mol to take control of the team due to be signed off next week, Kolles has insisted that he wants the team to start delivering improvements immediately.

"I don't like this phrases 'transitional' year - we cannot have any more transitional years," said Kolles, referring to the fact that the team are about to have their third owners in as many years.

"Now the wind tunnels and staff are in place, we had a transitional year last year and the year before when we stabilised the company. And we've had a wind tunnel upgrade; so everything is finished.

" Now we have the instruments to work on and improve the car. It is as simple as that."

Kolles is upbeat about the team's future and, after an encouraging run with their B-spec car in Belgium last weekend, he thinks progress can be made immediately.

"The Mallya deal should be finalised by September 28," he said. "It's fine, it's progressing, we're making a step forward every day - and that's important.

"The future looks bright for the team. The car is a step forward and we should have a step forward for the next race. For every race now there will be something new."

On the driver front, Kolles said that he did not expect to make any announcements about who will partner Adrian Sutil until after the end of the season.

He also hinted that despite Mallya's involvement it was likely the outfit would still take on a pay driver for the second seat.

"In the near-future, for sure it's better to have drivers who are bringing money," he said.
