Spyker expecting stronger race form

Spyker's chief technical officer Mike Gascoyne is expecting his team to be stronger in tomorrow's Italian Grand Prix after a disappointing qualifying

Neither Adrian Sutil nor Sakon Yamamoto managed to escape the bottom of the grid, despite revised hopes thanks to the introduction of a heavily revised car this weekend.

Sutil finished over sixth tenths of a second off the pace of his closest rival, while Yamamoto was over a second off after damaging his car in a spin at the start of the first session.

Gascoyne said the team were struggling for performance over one lap, but he is much more optimistic for tomorrow.

"A disappointing qualifying session where we still seem to be struggling to get one-lap performance," said Gascoyne.

"When you look at our long run pace we seem very competitive, but when you take the fuel out we struggle to improve our laptimes and once again went slower than we did this morning.

"We know we have to improve our qualifying pace but I am sure the race pace will be much more competitive and we'll be able to race with the group in front."
