Spyker bring forward B-spec car to July

Although the team have been pegged to the back of the field for the first three races of the year, they are confident that aerodynamic work coming out of their wind tunnels and updates planned for later this year will start making a difference.

And that is why the team have revised the schedule for their B-spec car, which was originally due to make its debut at the Turkish Grand Prix in August.

"We're actually bringing it forward to Germany," Spyker's chief technology officer Mike Gascoyne told the Spyker website. "It's less of an update because we're doing more updates earlier.

"The Malaysia package wasn't originally planned, and we're doing some parts for Barcelona, and hopefully there will be a package for Monaco. So we're doing more sooner, which is good."

Gascoyne is confident that the raft of changes planned for the new car will not only improve its speed, but will also help improve its handling characteristics.

"It's a new rear end, new gearbox, new radiator layout, new bodywork, and so on," he explained. "Everyone's working hard. We already know that aerodynamically it will be a fairly major step, and there will be a big improvement in the stability of the rear of the car.

"We're going from rotary to linear dampers; when I was at Toyota we found that change to be a big step forward in terms of controlling the rear of the car. So we're pretty confident that we'll make progress."

Spyker's new wind tunnel is due to be completed in the next few weeks and, after its calibration period, it will add to the work being being done at the Lola facility in Britain and the Aerolab wind tunnel in Italy.
