Software Glitch Costs Sauber Dear

A problem with the software controlling the speed limiters in both Saubers caused the Swiss squad a potential finish in the points at Sunday's Canadian Grand Prix.

A problem with the software controlling the speed limiters in both Saubers caused the Swiss squad a potential finish in the points at Sunday's Canadian Grand Prix.

Both Nick Heidfeld and Brazilian Felipe Massa were penalised for speeding in the pitlane due to a software problem, the German driver receiving first a drive-through penalty and later a 10-second stop and go that ruined all his chances of finishing in the points.

"This was a very disappointing race for us, as fifth place was a realistic goal," said technical director Willy Rampf after the race. "Unfortunately both cars were afflicted by a software problem with their pitlane speed limiters.

"They worked properly on the entry to the pit stops, but not when the drivers exited. We are currently investigating the cause."

Rookie Massa was also affected by the problem, and he too received a penalty, eventually finishing outside the points in ninth place. Heidfeld went on to finish in 12th position one lap down.
