Schumacher Retracts from Austrian GP Comments

World champion Michael Schumacher has retracted from the comments he made after the Austrian Grand Prix, where he accused Williams driver Juan Pablo Montoya of trying to take him off the track.

World champion Michael Schumacher has retracted from the comments he made after the Austrian Grand Prix, where he accused Williams driver Juan Pablo Montoya of trying to take him off the track.

On lap 16 of the race, Schumacher tried to overtake Montoya around the outside, and after the Colombian left his braking too late and ran wide, he forced Schumacher to go off the track in order to avoid contact.

Both drivers lost several positions and the Ferrari star slammed Montoya after the race. However, after watching the incident on television, Schumacher admitted it was a "race incident".

"Having watched the race on television and seen what happened on lap 16, I can say that it was less serious than I had thought at the time," said Schumacher. "I want to make it clear that, in my opinion it was a normal race incident, as indeed I said later on Sunday night.

"It has to be said that, when you sit in the car you don't get the overview of the situation, which you can have looking from outside."
