Schumacher Hails 'Fabulous' Victory

Ferrari's Michael Schumacher won the Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday to celebrate his seventh victory in eight races and write yet another page in the Formula One record book.

The World Champion punched back from his lowest starting position of the year to beat younger brother Ralf to the chequered flag and become the first driver to win the same Grand Prix seven times.

It was the German's 77th career victory and third in a row at the Gilles Villeneuve circuit.

The race was no thriller, dictated by pitstop strategy, but Schumacher hailed it as a 'fabulous' achievement nonetheless.

"It all worked out to plan," he said. "You enjoy any race you win. I have no special reason why I have won so often here - I probably just had a good package and a bit of luck."

Schumacher leads the 18 race championship with 70 points to Barrichello's 52. Briton Jenson Button has 43 after finishing fourth for BAR. Ferrari have 122 points to Renault's 61.

Any hopes of a fresh face, such as Button, on the top step of the podium vanished as it became apparent that Schumacher's sixth place on the grid was down to Ferrari qualifying with a heavier fuel load.

But there was also, all too briefly, the rare sight of Barrichello on Schumacher's tail and looking as if he might attempt to pass the number one.

"My teammate just pushed me very, very hard," said Schumacher. "He was very strong on the second stint in particular."
