Schumacher Fastest Again at Imola - Day Two

World Champion Michael Schumacher was fastest for the second consecutive day in testing at the Imola circuit, where Ferrari and Sauber were again in action.

World Champion Michael Schumacher was fastest for the second consecutive day in testing at the Imola circuit, where Ferrari and Sauber were again in action.

Five-time champion Schumacher, who on Monday could only complete eight laps with the Ferrari F2003-GA before a problem sidelined him, today worked with both the new car and the old F2002, enjoying a more productive day.

Schumacher set his quickest lap of 1:21.795 with the F2002, while his best time with the new F2003-GA was 1:21.980 after 34 laps. Brazilian Barrichello was nearly a second slower than his teammate with the F2002, while test driver Luca Badoer was the slowest of the trio also with the F2002 chassis.

The Sauber team continued working with Germans Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Nick Heidfeld at the wheel of the Petronas-powered C22. Sauber concentrated on a programme based on brake material and brake cooling data, with Heidfeld finishing behind the three Ferraris.

"In the morning I had minor problems with the car and could not run many laps," said Heidfeld. "But in the afternoon the car was fine and I covered a full race distance too. I am confident that the gathered data will further help us to be best prepared for the season's start."

Testing continues tomorrow.
