Schumacher eyes sixth title

Ominously for the rest of the Formula 1 fraternity, newly crowned world champion Michael Schumacher has pledged to keep pushing for race wins in the remaining six races of this season and for a sixth world title next year

With eight wins already, Schumacher is poised to equal the record of nine in a season he holds with Nigel Mansell at the German Grand Prix this weekend.

"Motor racing does not stop simply because the championship has been decided," he told the Daily Mail. "There is no reason why we cannot have good action and I am looking forward to fun, fights and hopefully some more victories."

Over the course of the year there have been rumours that the German may decide to retire at the end of 2002, but Schumacher sees no reason why he should not push on for another title next year.

"Ferrari are in good shape team-wise, we have a high performance level and I believe we can keep it going," he added. "It's what we live for and why we are in motor sport.

"When I won my first title with Ferrari in 2000 I said that every race would be for pleasure - but that was not 100 per cent true. Another championship was the target then and it still is."
