Schuey Jr slams Monaco street circuit

Ralf Schumacher says the Monaco Grand Prix to be scrapped from the Formula 1 calendar. The Williams driver says the Monte Carlo street circuit is out of date and dangerous for the drivers.

The race is considered by most, including his brother, world champion Michael Schumacher, to be the jewel in the crown. But there is precious little run off area and the cramped pit lane is the smallest and most crowded in Formula 1.

"For the drivers, this is a challenging circuit, but for me, however, it is just dangerous and out of date," said the German, who starts Sunday's Monaco Grand Prix fifth. "I don't think we should drive here anymore, but that is not up to me to decide.

"I don't even get a buzz out of driving here. I drive here because I have to," he continued. "It is enjoyable if you can go quick, but if I could chose I would rather not drive here."

McLaren boss Ron Dennis has also criticised the circuit as an anachronism, but pole holder David Coulthard says it will not be removed from the calendar until there is serious accident.
