Schuey aims for enjoyment in Spa
Formula 1 World Champion Michael Schumacher says he is looking to get maximum enjoyment from this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix as he races without the pressure of a championship fight and tries to secure second place in the standings for team mate Rubens Barrichello
The German wrapped up his fourth world title in Hungary a week ago with his seventh win of the season and Schumacher is relishing the prospect of racing on the Spa-Francochamps circuit, where he made his debut with Jordan 10 years ago, without having to think about the championship.
"I'm really looking forward to it," said Schumacher. "I remember that last year we arrived in Malaysia after winning the world championship at Suzuka. There I was also able to start with a feeling of freedom, without all the pressure, and that was great. I simply enjoyed the race. That's why I'm particularly looking forward to Spa, and not only because it has always been my favourite circuit."
Barrichello finished second in Hungary for a to sew up the constructors' championship for Ferrari, leaving the Italian team with the aim for the rest of the season to ensure Barrichello takes second position in the drivers' standings.
The Brazilian has 46 points, five less than McLaren's David Coulthard in second place. Scumacher's younger brother Ralf, who drives for Williams, trails Barrichello by only two points in third place, but the world champ has cleared up any talk of him helping his sibling rather than his team mate.
"First of all we will try to get Rubens second place on the world championship leaderboard," said Schumacher of his aims for the rest of the season. "That would make Ferrari's season more than perfect. Although I'm fond of my brother, we drive for different teams with different interests."
Schumacher has said before that he plans to repay Rubens for his supporting role this season, but he is also keen to progress with development work for next year. Despite sewing up both titles with four races in hand, Schumacher believes there is still room for improvement.
"We'll be able to prepare for the coming season more intensively," said Schumacher. "That will be necessary, because the other teams won't be taking it easy either. And except for the first two races of the season, we weren't really dominant, we had to work very hard for our wins. However, I don't believe that we have reached our peak yet. I believe that Ferrari can still get better and that there is still room for improvement mechanically."
