World Champion Michael Schumacher topped the times in Saturday's practice sessions despite failing to improve on his time in the opening session at Indianapolis.

The Ferrari driver's best lap time stood from the first session still stood at the end of the second as only Mika Hakkinen and Nick Heidfeld managed to make any inroads into his dominance. McLaren driver Hakkinen ended second ahead of Sauber's Nick Heidfeld with Ralf Schumacher fourth and Rubens Barrichello fifth.

Hakkinen moved up to second in the times early in the session as Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Alex Yoong both had spins. Moments earlier before the two spins the impressive Heidfeld moved up to third after a quick lap in his Sauber as Ralf Schumacher, Barrichello and Coulthard struggled to improve on their times.

Yoong had his second spin of the session at turn two late on, before Hakkinen improved his time further only to remain second in the timesheets behind Schumacher. Juan Pablo Montoya snatched sixth place from David Coulthard in the closing stages while Prost driver Tomas Enge joined the list of spins when he lost control of his AP04.
