Saturday Second Free Practice - Monaco GP

World Champion Michael Schumacher continued his perfect preparation for the Monaco Grand Prix when he topped the times in the final practice session on Saturday morning.

World Champion Michael Schumacher continued his perfect preparation for the Monaco Grand Prix when he topped the times in the final practice session on Saturday morning.

The German Ferrari driver has finished fastest in every session this weekend and will be chasing his first pole position in the principality since 2000 in the afternoon qualifying session.

But he is sure to have some strong competition after beating Italian Jarno Trulli, of Renault, by just two thousandths of a second and finishing just six thousandths ahead of the BAR-Honda of third-placed Japanese driver Takuma Sato.

Spaniard Fernando Alonso, in the second Renault, finished fourth fastest with Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya fifth for Williams-BMW and Jenson Button sixth in the second BAR.

Scot David Coulthard continued McLaren-Mercedes' encouraging running with the seventh fastest time, 0.656 seconds behind Schumacher, as teammate Kimi Raikkonen narrowly avoided a brush with the wall during the session.

Finn Raikkonen still posted the ninth fastest time but was just beaten by the Williams of German Ralf Schumacher, with Rubens Barrichello, in the second Ferrari, completing the top ten some 1.160 seconds off the pace.

Montoya had a lucky escape when he lightly damaged his Williams-BMW after locking his brakes and going straight on into the tyre barriers at La Rascasse. He was able to reverse out and return to the pits.

But things continued to go wrong for Australian Mark Webber, who missed most of Thursday practice after a fire in his Jaguar, when he was forced to stop during the second session with flames licking the back of his car once again.
