World Champion Michael Schumacher led teammate Rubens Barrichello to a Ferrari one-two in Saturday's first practice session for the Monaco Grand Prix as they put in final preparations for the afternoon qualifying session.
Schumacher posted a time of 1:15.751 to finish just 0.019 seconds ahead of Barrichello, who almost claimed top spot with a late run. Australian Mark Webber, of Jaguar, was third but finished 0.522 seconds behind Schumacher.
After their disastrous day on Thursday, when two cars hit the barriers and one caught fire, Jaguar were determined to put in a good showing - especially with some Hollywood celebrities in town for the Ocean's 12 promotion.
Briton Jenson Button finished fourth for BAR-Honda, 0.607 seconds back, with Italian Jarno Trulli and Spaniard Fernando Alonso fifth and sixth for Renault and Finn Kimi Raikkonen an encouraging seventh in the McLaren-Mercedes.
BAR-Honda driver Takuma Sato, of Japan, claimed eighth place for BAR with Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya ninth in the Williams-BMW and David Coulthard completing the top ten in the second McLaren.
Jaguar led the early running, with Webber posting a lap time of 1:18.555 to put him on the top of the timesheets ahead of Austrian teammate Christian Klien but Sato soon went faster in his BAR-Honda.
With half an hour of the 45-minute session gone, Schumacher put himself in front with a smooth lap to go 0.534 seconds faster than the next best driver, Alonso, with Sato having dropped down the order.
Alonso improved his time to move within 0.255 seconds of Schumacher but dropped to fourth when Barrichello came out to make it a Ferrari one-two with 32 minutes gone and Trulli posted a faster time to claim third soon after.
Brazilian Felipe Massa had a 180-degree spin as he entered the swimming pool complex but somehow missed the barriers as he slid around and returned his Sauber to the pits without damage.
It was a tough morning for Minardi, who saw Italian Gianmaria Bruni clatter the barriers and then Hungarian Zsolt Baumgartner hit the barriers at La Rascasse after he took a tight line around the corner and bounced over the kerbs.
