Saturday First Free Practice - Monaco GP

Finn Kimi Raikkonen topped the times for McLaren-Mercedes in the first Saturday morning practice session ahead of final qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix as Fernando Alonso clattered into the barriers in his Renault.

Raikkonen, who finished well down the order in Thursday's qualifying session, finished with a time of 1:15.752 to lead the field by eight tenths of a second as Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya finished second for Williams-BMW.

Australian Mark Webber finished third for Jaguar, just three thousandths of a second behind Montoya, with world champion Michael Schumacher, of Ferrari, almost one second down in fourth.

Italian Jarno Trulli was the best of the Renault pair in fifth and he was the only other man to finish within a second of Raikkonen as his team-mate Alonso finished down in 17th place.

Spaniard Alonso had a difficult session and almost hit the barriers at the Rascasse but braked just in time to avoid them. He then hit the Armco on the exit of the swimming pool and lost his front wing and front right suspension.

Brazilian Rubens Barrichello finished sixth in the second Ferrari, with Briton Jenson Button seventh for BAR-Honda, just ahead of his team-mate Jacques Villeneuve by four hundredths of a second.

Scot David Coulthard finished ninth in the second McLaren-Mercedes, with Ralf Schumacher completing the top ten in his Williams-BMW.

Briton Ralph Firman, of Jordan, had a brief off at Sainte Devote when he missed his braking point once again and Barrichello, Coutlhard, Justin Wilson, Ralf Schumacher and Webber all missed the chicane during the session.
