Rosberg Ready to Race for Williams

Nico Rosberg has told Autosport-Atlas that he is ready to race for the Williams team this season, amid speculation that he could be drafted in for the final two Grands Prix of the year

Nick Heidfeld will sit out next week's Brazilian Grand Prix after a bicycle accident at the weekend, having already missed the Italian and Belgian Grands Prix, and it is looking increasingly likely that he will not return this season.

That means the team are almost certain to draft in Antonio Pizzonia for his home race at Interlagos, but beyond that the team's options are believed to be open. And there are growing suggestions that Rosberg is a serious contender to drive in Suzuka and China.

Speaking to Autosport-Atlas, Rosberg drew short of claiming that he was in line for the drive but admitted that he would relish the opportunity if it came up.

He would be free from his GP2 commitments by Suzuka because the final race of the season takes place in Bahrain the week after Brazil.

"Am I racing for the team for the last two races?" he said. "Well, I have one more [GP2] race to do and then I'm free. I would love to race if given an opportunity."

There are suggestions, however, that the Rosberg rumours are being fuelled in a bid to force Williams' Brazilian sponsors Petrobras to up their commitment to the team in a bid to secure Pizzonia the drive for the final two races of the year.
