Rivals looking to copy BMW's wing
BMW-Sauber's rivals have admitted that they will look into copying the team's radical 'Twin Towers' nose wings, after the devices appeared on the F1.06 for the first time at last weekend's French Grand Prix
The wings are aimed at channeling air more effectively over the BMW car and, after the FIA gave them the green light, other teams have now said they will consider fitting them in the future if they believe they will improve performance.
Ferrari technical director Ross Brawn said: "I am not quite sure how they work and I am sure there will be some controversy, because there have been similar things in the past that the FIA have asked people to remove because of the vision for the drivers.
"But if the FIA are happy then obviously we will go away and have a look at the concept. Like most teams, we have our own development parts and we also keep an eye on new concepts that other people use."
Williams technical director Sam Michael echoed Brawn's claims that his team will also have to look into the wings.
"Their car is obviously working very well with the wings, which is affecting the air onto the rear wing," said Michael. "It's like any new part. We haven't tried it in the tunnel, but we'll have a look."
Despite saying his team would consider fitting the wings if they worked, Michael admitted that the 'Twin Towers' were not the prettiest of aerodynamic items.
"It looks terrible," he said. "But there are lots of bits on the car that don't look good."
