Richards Warns Against Complacency

BAR boss David Richards has told his Formula One team to put Jenson Button's morale-boosting Malaysian Grand Prix podium behind them as they head for Bahrain.

BAR boss David Richards has told his Formula One team to put Jenson Button's morale-boosting Malaysian Grand Prix podium behind them as they head for Bahrain.

"It was very encouraging but we have to make sure we don't get complacent," said Richards of Button's third place at Sepang. "For Jenson it was a memorable occasion but it's out of the way and finished now.

"We've got to continue putting ourselves on the podium and in situations where we can be on the podium. There's no question that we can think we're there yet. We don't intend to be complacent after just one podium."

Sunday's race in Bahrain will be the third round of the Championship and first in the Middle East. Button's first podium of his Formula One career lifted the 24-year-old to fourth place in the Championship after two races and equalled Honda-powered BAR's best result since they were founded in 1999.

"We expected these results from the start of this season and it shows how much we've improved as a team," said Button. "I hope there's a lot more of this throughout the year. We go to Bahrain looking for more of the same and see how we go."

Bahrain offers a new challenge to all teams but BAR technical director Geoff Willis said he expected the team to continue strongly.

"People will not think 'phew, we've done it,'" he said after Malaysia. "They will just go and work even harder because they want more of these. I'm not thinking of this as a fluke."
