Renault Optimistic Despite Slow Start

The Renault team are confident of a strong showing in tomorrow's qualifying despite a slow start to their British Grand Prix weekend today.
Spaniard Fernando Alonso, pole setter at the French Grand Prix last weekend, ended the first of today's practice sessions early when he pulled over at the Stowe corner after 40 minutes. Alonso was able to complete his programme in the afternoon, but finished just 12th quickest.
"We suffered a throttle problem on Fernando's engine this morning, but were able to quickly identify and resolve its cause," explained Renault's engine chief Denis Chevrier. "Fortunately, he was able to make up for this with a slightly more substantial programme this afternoon.
"This incident aside, we completed our programme without any problems. The times are extremely close, but we also need to remember that the track conditions were evolving throughout the day. We remain hopeful of competing strongly tomorrow."
Alonso's teammate Jarno Trulli was the quickest of the Renaults, posting the eighth quickest time of the day.
