Renault boosted by Germany result

Renault's chief race engineer Alan Permane says the French squad have been boosted by Nelsinho Piquet's second place finish at the German Grand Prix

"That is for sure, especially with new parts coming in Budapest," said Permane after Piquet gave Renault their first podium of the 2008 season.

"Then, after that, we will have a new aerodynamic package for Monza and a new front wing before Singapore, so we will continue to fight."

Permane also reckons Piquet will get a confident boost after his performance at Hockenheim.

"Nelson should gain confidence from this result and it should help his approach to qualifying, which is where he is struggling at the moment," he added.

"It's a fantastic result that rewards the efforts of everyone in Enstone and Viry over the last few weeks. It's also a reward for all Nelson's hard work."

The result allowed Renault to move into sixth place in the constructors' championship, just two points behind fourth-placed Toyota.

Permane reckons the team should now be able to jump ahead of the Japanese squad and achieve the goal they have set for the season.

"The podium in Germany has certainly helped because we are now only two points off this position. If we have the chance to score with two cars until the end of the season, we should be able to complete this mission without too much difficulty."
